Our digestive system works hard all day to digest and absorb all of the nutrients and energy from the food that we are consuming through the day in order to keep our base functions working let alone when we add things like exercise and work into the mix.
When we sleep our digestive systems slow down providing the system time to rest and recover.
When we don't get adequate sleep we are at higher risk of inflammation leading to digestive disorders such as IBD and IBS.
We are more likely to crave sugary foods as our body requires additional energy in order to get through the day
We are more predisposed to stress and other mood imbalances which can also lead to inflammation in the gut
Hormones such as melatonin and serotonin get thrown out of balance; this can affect the rest of our hormones and cause imbalances in our bodies.
If our digestive system isn't functioning how it is supposed to be we can't absorb the nutrients from our food or the energy which is going to lead to fatigue, inflammation and gastrointestinal issues.
