FEMALE HEALTH: THE MENSTRUAL CYCLE PART 1

A lot of us ‘feel’ the effects of hormonal changes that occur in our bodies throughout the month without really understanding what is happening and why.

The menstrual cycle occurs in female bodies from puberty until menopause and is controlled by changes in hormone levels.

A textbook menstrual cycle will last 28 days and is broken into 2 phases: Follicular Phase and Luteal Phase.

The hormonal changes during these 2 phases can affect our physical strength, recovery, mood, appetite, weight and physical appearance.

Learning about what is happening in your own body is empowering. Rather than punishing yourself, understand what you are feeling and why.

This will allow you to manage your training, nutrition and lifestyle around these changes.
