NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF LIVING IN A CALORIE DEFICIT

Writer: Anthony KassisAnthony Kassis

1. Less production of leptin (satiety hormone) and a greater production of ghrelin (hunger hormone).

2. Very low energy levels; feeling tired and lethargic all the time.

3. Can cause the body to become catabolic (burning of lean muscle tissue).

4. Can increase cortisol levels (stress hormone) in a negative way that slows down/stops fat burning and can cause body fat gain.

5. Can effect an individual psychologically as they are more inclined to binge eat and deviate from a plan due to hunger. This can often lead to feelings of guilt and regret which can cause the person to lose motivation or, in some cases, give up entirely.
