For many years Magnesium was a forgotten vitamin. It was heard about but never really understood by many people as to the great benefit it has on multiple aspects of our health.
I am a big believer in ensuring magnesium is included in your supplementation as it has been proven to improve recovery, brain function, muscle growth, and sleep (to only name a few!)
Using magnesium on a daily basis will improve the following:
1. Sleep - magnesium has a calming effect on the nervous system. If you are deficient in magnesium, your nervous system will be very active and you will find it very hard to even relax let alone sleep! Also, a lack of magnesium alters the electrical activity in the brain causing frequent awakenings and agitated sleep.
2. Improve your Insulin Sensitivity - low magnesium levels will decrease your insulin sensitivity, making it harder for you to lose fat and get lean.
3. Belly Fat and Central Obesity (fat around your waist) - magnesium has been shown to lower the amount of fat around the belly/waist area. Individuals who suffer from an excessive amount of fat around this area commonly have a very high level of cortisol. Magnesium has been shown to lower this hormone which therefore allows the fat around this area to decrease.
